The Opportunity Working with the Campus Librarian, develop and deliver services in the Learning Enhancement Center (LEC), a library program to encourage students- independent learning and academic skill development. Oversee the smooth operation of LEC on one campus. Support student learning through creative initiatives, the selection of appropriate materials and technology and developing faculty partnerships. The Responsibilities - In conjunction with library services and selected academic units, create a dynamic program of Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) services that encourage interactive learning and student progress toward the achievement of university learning outcomes. - Oversee the operation of the LEC on one campus, including maintaining the collections and equipment, scheduling classes and special activities. - Deliver services to students and teach. - Supervise one to two full time staff members, select and train senior students in the peer tutoring program and students assistants for circulation tasks. - Actively participate in the information literacy program, including teaching, preparation of materials and promoting basic information literacy for students using the LEC. - Promote awareness of the LEC services through regular contact with faculty and development of promotional materials. - Produce materials for use by students and faculty to support specific needs for independent learning. - Recommend adaptive technology and equipment to support independent learners. - Serve as library liaison to designated academic unit, developing the library collection and electronic resources for that subject area and teaching Information Literacy classes. - As a member of the library team, participate actively in strategic planning, library-wide projects and in the smooth operation of the library. - Serve on library and university committees. - Seek professional development and research opportunities to maintain currency in the field and contribute to the academy. Degree of Independence/Complexity of Environment - In consultation with Campus Librarian and selected academic units, plan and deliver LEC services. - Observe university, library and system-wide policies and procedures. Working Relationships/Impact of interactions - Work closely with librarians, faculty and students in the creation and delivery of an LEC plan for reinforcing student learning and success. - Work closely with colleagues in all library units and the LEC Council - Responsible to the Campus Librarian, LEC, and ultimately to the Dean/Director of the Library. - Coordinates and develops services in the LECM on Abu Dhabi campus. - Must possess a Masters Degree or Ph.D. in Library Science or appropriate field from an accredited institution, and a minimum of 3 years library and teaching experience in a western-style university. - Experience in a library or in academic support services. Preferred Requirements - Knowledge of IT and computer applications for library and LEC functions. - Proficient in English and Arabic. - Library and Learning Enhancement Center experience in United Arab Emirates or Middle East or English as a Second/Foreign Language environment. - LEC management experience in a similar environment. Critical Competencies - Ability to make the LEC an exciting place for learning and personal development. - Experience in libraries, instructional design and teaching. - Understanding of pedagogy and diverse learning styles. - Experience in one or more of the following: ESL (English as a second language) instruction, teaching writing, math education, information literacy and/or information technology training - Flexibility and creativity in learning situations. - Ability to cooperate with library team members and with faculty throughout the university.
